The Causes, Clubs and Concentrates exhibition is the second in a trilogy of annual historical Smelter Photographic exhibitions which started last year to commemorate the 125th year of operations at the Port Pirie Smelters.

These exhibitions have set out to capture historical photographs, documents and objects from the smelters and the community which reflect our unique, if not at times remarkable history.

Last year’s inaugural exhibition, a partnership between Nyrstar and the Port Pirie  Regional Art Gallery, attracted more visitors than any other held at the gallery in its 24 year history indicating the immense interest there is in the rich history of the Smelter, this community and the region.

Setting up an exhibition takes a lot of work. It has involved months of collecting material by a team of organisers, led by Gail Bartel from Nyrstar, Gallery Director Jenni Frost and Project Curator Kirstie Jamieson who have been supported by members of the community who have generously lent images from their own collections for this exhibition.

The exhibition will run from 6th May to 19th June at the Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery. Gallery opening hours are Monday – Friday: 9am to 5pm. Weekends and Public Holidays: 11am to 3pm. Be sure to take in this wonderful exhibition which is focused on the 1940s and 1950s time period.
